Lucy's Birthday

My baby girl is officially a big seven year old.

Lucy's birthday was on Thanksgiving so she unwrapped her gifts from Jimmy's parents at the restaurant. Lilly's birthday was that week so she got to open her gifts from them too. She got a toy horse and rider that she really likes.

Lucy received puzzles. She has never really been interested in puzzles until recently and she couldn't wait to get home to work them.

After Thanksgiving dinner that evening, Lucy had her party. She got lots of items for her dolls, which made her one happy little girl.

She also got a placemat with her picture on it.

Here she is with her diaper bag. Her Aunt Jennifer made her cloth diapers for her babies.

She wanted a vanilla cake with flowers.

She did a good job blowing out all the candles.

Thanksgiving

First we had Thanksgiving lunch with Jimmy's parents at a local restaurant.

Lucy enjoyed the ice cream they had.

That evening we had dinner with my family.

Lilly's Birthday

It is hard to believe that Lilly is already ten years old.

We had her birthday party after Sunday dinner at Grandma's house. Lilly requested lentil soup with oyster crackers as her birthday meal.

She got lots of fun gifts, one of her favorites was a placemat with her picture on it.

She also got the sewing kit she has been wanting.

She ended up picking out two cakes. One that was a regular chocolate cake and then a smaller chocolate ice cream cake.

A Busy Week

On Thursday Lucy's class had a Thanksgiving dinner. Lucy decided to eat peanut butter and jelly because she didn't like the turkey.

Also on Thursday, the girls' school had a skate night at the local skating rink. Lilly won a race and got a pair of light up glasses.

Friday was the honor roll breakfast at school. Lilly finally made it onto the A honor roll. We are very proud of her hard work!

Sight Words

The newest way that Lucy likes to practice her sight words is with this magnetic board and letters that I found at the Dollar Tree. I wrote her sight words on index cards and she pulls one from the stack, reads it and then searches for the letter to spell it out.

Getting ready for Thanksgiving

The girls made turkeys to decorate the house for Thanksgiving.

It has rained a lot, which is good because we do need the rain, but our road turns into a muddy mess.

On one of the sunny days when Lilly and Lucy were out of school, we picked Jonas up from his preschool and he had fun showing them the playground. It was a bit wet, but that didn't seem to bother them. :-)

Rhyming Game

All About Reading comes with a box of cards that are used in the lessons. Lucy is still working on rhyming, so we took the rhyming cards from the lessons we have completed and played a game with them. It is like Go Fish. Each player gets four cards and asks the player next to them if they have a card that rhymes. For example, Lucy would ask Lilly if she has a card that rhymes with box. The other player says "Go rhyme" if they don't have a rhyming card and the first player pulls a card from the stack.

It is really nice how all the cards are organized in this nice box.

Lilly played with us. Lucy is still struggling with rhyming, but she is getting better.

Just a Monday.

Lucy is really enjoying the All About Reading curriculum. She couldn't wait to do another lesson when she got home from speech therapy.

Today the letter was B and she painted blue dots on the letter and then painted the rest of the picture.

Rhyming is something Lucy struggles with and AAR teaches children how to rhyme. This was a game of concentration we played with the rhyming cards.

Lilly has learned to knit and is very proud of the washcloth she made.

All About Reading

Lucy has recently been diagnosed with dyslexia, ADD, sensory processing disorder and an expressive language disorder. Last year she have a very difficult time in kindergarten and the decision was made to keep her back in kindergarten another year. While she is doing better this year(and has a really awesome teacher), there are still a lot of areas where she is struggling. After researching I found a reading curriculum called All About Reading that looked like it would be a good fit for Lucy. Since she still isn't reading at all we started with the pre-reading level. So far she loves it and I really hope it will help her out.

Coloring the letter A. She also got to glue buttons on for eyes.

She used playdough to make the letter A. She was a bit confused at first about how to make one, so I made one to show her.
At the end she got to put a sticker on the progress chart. She can't wait to get to the end.
