Roxy

She is very noble looking.

Georgia chewing on her ear.

So, we got a new dog to be with Georgia. We actually went up on Friday to look at adopting one of Georgia's siblings, but they had already put him to sleep by the time we got there. But we saw this dog who had been scheduled to be put down the day before, but they hadn't done it, so theywere getting ready to if we didn't adopted her. She was such a good natured, well behaved dog that a rescue group had been trying to find a home to take her, but they had had no luck. Jimmy picked her up yesterday and she rode home sitting directly on his lap looking out the window. She and Georgia seem to get along really well. She has tolerated Georgia jumping and chewing on her most of the time. She will get tired of it and give Georgia and little warning growl and Georgia will back off. She also has apparently been trained before because it didn't take any time to teach her to walk behind me on a leash and not lunge at the cat. Now if we can just get Georgia to behave this well we will be all set. I wish I could get a picture of them curled up sleeping together, it is so sweet.

A new name

Lilly has gotten tired of George constantly being referred to as a boy, so she has renamed her Georgia. As you can tell Georgia is starting to plump up and become a little better behaved. These pictures were taken right after a bath where I almost gave her a heart attack trying to use the blow-dryer to get her all dry. She prefers towel drying.

The new dog

She is so skinny and so happy to see food. Poor thing.

After being caged for four days, she is happy to be free and doesn't stay still for pictures.
We picked up our new puppy from the vet this evening and she is cute, lovable, and in need of a great deal of training. I've spent the evening watching puppy training videos so tomorrow we can start teaching her to not jump on people or try to use people as her chew toys. It appears that all puppies do these things and it just gets worse if they aren't quickly trained to stop. I think that once she is properly trained, she is going to make a great dog for the girls.

Two Georges find new families

This weekend the weather was so wonderful and we spent almost the whole time outside. But on Saturday afternoon, for some reason, George decided to start snapping at Lucy. At first I thought that maybe Lucy had hurt her on accident and that is why she snapped, but then later on she leaned down to pet George and George tried to bite her face. I wasn't sure what to do, because she is always so gentle with the girls and Lilly loves her to pieces. I looked online about situations like this and it ends up that often dogs view small children as lesser members of their pack and often small dogs are more prone to biting children.

We were going to try and find a new home for George, but on Sunday we got up to find out that she had escaped again. I expected that she would come home by Sunday afternoon, but she didn't. By Monday I was fearing the worst that something horrible had happened to her. She has never been known for having any sort of common sense. Monday night a little after 10 pm, I got a call from Laura. She was at the gas station near our house and George was there. George was apparently running around the store being pampered and called "Missie". Laura brought her back, but she also said that there were several people that really wanted to give George a good home. Since we were probably going to have to give her away, I had Laura take her back and let them keep her. It was really sad because George couldn't understand why we weren't letting her stay. But I feel a lot better knowing that first of all George didn't die a horrible death, and secondly, that she has a home with people who will love and take care of her.

Lilly, of course, was very upset. So we took her today to the Animal Shelter to pick out a new dog. At first we couldn't find one, but the lady who worked there begged us to go look at this one little puppy. We had missed it because it was with all the rottweilers and pit bulls. It is one of their Gold Adoption dogs, meaning it has acted very gentle and the workers feel like it would make a good family dog. It was also scheduled to be euthanized this afternoon if it wasn't adopted. We took it out and played with it for a little while and it did really well with the girls. So we adopted this little puppy, who is not only a girl, but Lilly is insisting that we name it George.

The new George is getting sent to the vet near our house and they will call us tomorrow to pick her up after they have checked her all out, fixed her, and given her all the shots. Lilly has already picked out a collar, a leash and a ton of dog toys for it. Lilly is happy about it and is very glad that she is able to give this puppy a family.
